What we do

Our philosophy is to provide a holistic and individualised cancer treatment

The declared aim of the Cancer Hospital SanaFontis is to offer patients with solid tumours, lymphoma and certain types of leukaemia a comprehensive and holistic therapy. This approach does not concentrate on just the patient’s body but embraces the entire person. Our individualised therapy approach is guided by the medical, social and psychological needs of our patients, and each therapy is specifically tailored to fit just the patient it is intended for.

An international cancer hospital

At our hospital patients from other cultural backgrounds than our own are welcome as well. An international team of doctors and nurses provides care and advice in several languages, and in addition to that we can fill the cultural and religious needs of our patients from abroad.

Being an international competence and service centre we are in close contact with cancer centres worldwide and well integrated into the infrastructure of Freiburg Medical University and other hospitals in the region.

We offer the entire range of cancer diagnostics and early detection procedures currently available

Be it modern laboratory tests such as the identification of biomarkers, tumour chemosensitivity assays (TCA) or latest equipment for major diagnostic imaging such as a PET-CT scanner - at our hospital we maintain that only forward-looking, cutting-edge technology will give us the information we need about the course of a disease.

We encourage patient education and will give you a second opinion

Whether a tumour therapy is appropriate to a tumour or not can spell the difference between life and death. You can approach our experienced oncologists for a second opinion which they will be pleased to give in the form of a comprehensive written evaluation.

We provide specific tumour treatment that is individually tailored for each patient

The individualised therapy design is guided by the type of cancer, the course it takes and the therapeutic objective. But above all, it is guided by the wishes and needs of our patients and their relatives.

Besides standard therapies we also provide innovative cancer treatment

Depending on their treatment regimen patients receive chemotherapy, hormone therapy, or radiation therapy. If they wish, patients with advanced-stage cancers can also receive innovative tumour therapy, for example anti-angiogenetic therapy (the tumour is starved of blood and, as a result, of vital nutrients and oxygen), immune therapy, or in the form of known and proven drugs that are used for new therapeutic purposes.

Complementary cancer therapies support the treatment and reduce side effects

With our micronutrient programme we help to prevent nutrient deficiencies; the methods applied in Traditional Chinese Medicine enhance the body’s resilience and reduce pain; physical therapy helps patients regain their strength and fitness; and psycho-oncological support helps them to enjoy life again.

Our Clinical Trial Centre investigates new drugs for tumour therapy

It often takes decades for new drugs to become generally available. That is time that most cancer patients have not got. Therefore, we offer our patients the benefits of innovative drugs by giving them the opportunity to participate in clinical studies. Two such innovative drugs are the substance AMT that can inhibit tumour growth, and the substance AZD2171 that can “starve tumours to death”.

Compassionate and attentive care for our patients

Being sick with cancer is a very frightening and daunting experience. Everybody who works at our hospital - physicians, nursing staff or administrative staff - is aware of that and will support the patients throughout the various phases of their disease and recovery with compassionate care.
