Physical Therapy
Sometimes, the fight against cancer calls for radical and stressful therapies that can have long-term effects on the body. Lymphatic oedema, changes or dysfunctions in the locomotor system, neural pain, breathing trouble and fatigue frequently weigh down patients during and after tumour therapy. Physical therapy plays an important role in the treatment of these symptoms.
At our hospital, physiotherapists closely co-operate with the physicians to prepare an individualised treatment plan for each patient. In doing so, the patient’s situation is taken into account: his or her background, age, fears, hopes, and wishes. The complex picture of the patient which we are able to create from this information holds important clues as to which procedure holds the promise of success for this particular patient. The treatment plan itself, however, is handled flexibly: if the patient’s situation changes, so does the treatment plan.
The primary aim of physical therapy is to maintain and improve the patient’s mobility, independence and physiological stability. Besides that, physiotherapy has a positive effect on the patient’s mind as well: hope returns with increasing mobility.
