New Applications for "old" Medicines

Frequently, standard therapies become ineffective when the tumour reaches an advanced stage. In order to still bring the cancer under control the physicians of the Cancer Hospital SanaFontis pursue innovative treatment strategies by using already known drugs that have originally been approved for other therapeutic indications but have shown they can shrink tumours.

Aspirin, for example, can prevent the formation of blood vessels in colon tumours. Thalidomide has also demonstrated anti-angiogenetic efficacy in certain types of cancer.

In some cases, the use of these drugs carries risks. Therefore they will only be administered after comprehensive information of the affected patient and/or his or her relatives.
