Hormone Therapy
Hormones are the body's biochemical messengers that control important processes within the cells. The growth of some malignant tumours is stimulated by the body’s natural male and female hormones, mainly, for example, tumours of the mammal glands and the prostate. The cancer cells’ dependence on hormones provides the leverage for (anti-)hormone therapy: the body’s hormones are neutralised in order to prevent the tumour from spreading. This type of treatment is generally well tolerated and has almost no long-term side-effects.
In the Cancer Hospital SanaFontis, hormone therapy is specifically tailored for each patient after meticulous testing. It is administered in the form of pills or injections and the length of hormone treatment depends on the stage of the disease, the therapeutic objectives and the results of check-ups.
