Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy is a systemic therapy that acts on the entire body via the bloodstream. Its intended aim is to reach even cancer sites or malignant cell colonies that are far away from the primary tumour, kill the malignant cells and thus prevent them from spreading any further. In the last 20 years there have been major breakthroughs on this field: some malignancies can be cured by chemotherapy, in other cases survival time can be increased or quality of life improved. The much-feared side effects of previous cancer therapies can be avoided or reduced today by using modern drugs and effective concomitant/side-line therapies. If the situation requires it, we combine chemotherapy with surgical intervention or radiation therapy.
The Cancer Hospital SanaFontis uses chemotherapeutic drugs only with the patient’s consent. This includes carefully weighing the potential benefits against the possible interference with the patient’s quality of life caused by the drugs’ side effects.
